Leviticus 19:2 states "Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say to them:You shall be holy for the Lord your God am holy." Qadosh is the Hebrew word for holy. It means set apart, sacred, clean, morally or ceremonially pure. Holiness is separation from everything profane and defiling; and at the same time, it is dedication to everything holy and pure. He (God) is called Qadosh, "the Holy One of Israel." Thus verse 19:2 can say, "you shall be qedoshjim [holy ones] for I...am holy." Be holy; Don't DO holy!
